Singing Lessons

Tell me about singing lessons:

Young woman signing enthusiastically into a microphoneSinging is a fantastic way to make yourself feel great, but most of us think that we’re just not good enough to even try. But the good news is that anyone can sing. Ok, so some of us will never be the next, er, X-Factor finalist, but we’re still capable of being good enough to get excited the next time someone suggests that the office party is going to be held at the local karaoke bar!

Most people, including some of the greats, are bad at singing when they start out. Like most things in life, you just need to learn how to do it. Some good vocal training, through which you’ll learn how to breathe through the diaphragm and use vocal chords in the right way, is often all that’s needed to make the difference and give you the confidence to sing well.

Is it really for me?

If you want to hone your singing skills to the next level, or even develop the confidence to just try and sing, then singing lessons are for you. It’s also, as proven through numerous research studies, something that’s really good for you, both physiologically and psychologically! It’s a great way to keep in shape as you are exercising your lungs and your heart and additionally producing ‘feel good’ hormones called endorphins, which rush around your body when you’re singing. It’s also been shown to increase mental alertness through greater oxygenation, improving posture and clearing respiratory tubes and sinuses. Singing has positive benefits psychologically because of its normally positive effects to reduce stress. Additionally, as singing is often done with friends or within a community, the sense of belonging and shared endeavour will make you happier!
